Hello all,

Just wanted to say hi as a new member of byc. I have been all over this site for approximately 6 months when I first got my hens. Thanks for all the helpful hints!!

Welcome to our flock. BYC has an excellent Learning Center if you haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Congratulations on the new hens. What kind did you get?

I have one buff orpington, two easter eggers and two rhode island reds. One of my easter eggers was broody so I let her lay on a clutch of eggs and she hatched 7. Out of the seven I believe we got an easter egger, two barred rocks, two black astrolorps, an ameracuana and a white leghorn. They are only a week old but the place I got the fertilized egg from has these breeds. I've been all over the internet looking at baby chicks of these breeds so I'm just guessing right now lol.

They are so much fun!!

You've got a great flock of layers. At one time or another, I have had all of the breeds on your list, and still have Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, and Easter Eggers. The Australorps and Orpingtons are very friendly and gentle and Australorps in particular are excellent layers. The Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's favorites. She loves the colored eggs. Good luck with your flock.
