Well, after studying a LOT of the coops in the coops design section here (I'm a salesman, my carpentry skills are lacking), we have just about finished coop #3. Lacking a little trim work, paint and attaching to the run. Finished size is 6ft x 8ft x 8ft tall. Overall cost was around $300 (I was quite pleased) and we moved 46 "baby chicks" in last night....they are lovin' it.

I can't say thanks enough to those of you before me on BYC for posting all of your coop design ideas....it was a HUGE help!!!

You did well for someone who claims to have few carpentry skills! Are all the openings up high covered with hardware cloth? I can't tell in the pic. If you've ever seen mice climb a wall, you'll know why I asked, LOL.

Cyn...all the openings are covered 1" poultry wire.......BUT, now that you mention it, guess I need to make a run to TSC. Hadn't thought AT ALL about mice. Have never seen any, but they HAVE to be here. I do have bunches of chipmunks and those little guys can climb too!! Well, off to the store!! Thanks! (as always)

Oh, Scott, you'd be amazed at the nightlife around your coops. My decks are busy with little field mice at night, which is why the stray cats prowl my decks (I see their tracks). And they can run straight up a wall, too. Also, a weasel can sometimes squeeze through 1" chickenwire. Dont want that!
