Our family adopted a young rooster from one of my husband's co-workers...the previous owners had gotten two unsexed chicks, thinking they'd have egg layers later on, but both turned out to be roosters. LOL Unfortunately, they left them loose all the time and one got eaten by something...if only they'd given them to us when they first mentioned they'd been thinking of re-homing them! We said we'd take them, but they waffled for a few days, and then one morning, there was nothing but feathers left of the one. We'll be looking for advice and info a lot, as we are planning on setting up a real coop and getting some ladies for our young guy. We have a makeshift coop set up now - quite a hilarious concoction it is, too. I want to attach a photo, but I don't see that option here?? It's got a dog crate for an entry way, window screening as a top, and a garbage can as a bed. LOL He seems to like it and it'll keep him semi-safe, at least. He follows us around like a puppy dog when we let him roam - he's such a character!
