Just another newbie...

Hi from Florida! I had a pet silkie a long time ago. Sweetest hen ever! Good luck keeping it at the number you want though, lol. It's easy to get caught up, and I dont go back to the feed store if I know they have more chicks. I have to keep mine at only 3 hens.

Welcome, after being on here you will feel urges to raise meaties, broilers, egg layers for their color of egg only, even Emu's. Be careful with the Emu's they can get really mean I hear. But hey, after a live video of that gorgeous green egg hatching, I had a huge desire to have some!!

There are eggs of so many colors and let us all warn you upfront, Silkies are just pure evil. If you don't believe me "search" evil silkies today and see how many hits you get

the little devils are just too cute and somehow, upon hatching they get to you....................you'll just have to read. But, go with caution on the silkies, as they multiply quicker than rabbits.

I do love silkies, but in reality, they are a bit harder to keep sometimes, as they are small, quiet, sometimes slow (feathers on the head, poor vision) so they may not be your best choice in your neighborhood. They brood a lot and are faithful at it. They also don't roost *usually, so keep in mind they will sleep on the floor of a coop. BUT. if they steal your heart, you can buy them diapers on here as well.

Just some early morning humor, but yes, I do own a few silkie diapers.........

Gosh, when they are cold, they just must be in the house. Ok, maybe I've talked you out of silkies, give them a try in spite of me. Again, welcome. You will love this forum and it's great folks. HenZ
