Submissive as in accepting mating? Time varies, but for most of my birds (not just chickens) eggs appear after 10 to 14 days.

Yesterday one of my hew hampshires squatted down and let me pet her.... Today she runs off... So I don't know.....

It probably depends on the chicken a lot. My polish had been squatting for about 4 weeks before she started laying. I have another hen who has been squatting about five or six weeks now with no eggs.
