Hi there. I just experienced my first hatch. I’m curious about hatch rates and if things went normally.
I bought 26 eggs from someone local, so no shipping.

17 healthy chicks hatched.

I threw 3 eggs away at day 18 because they did not develop.

3 hatched but died- two right away and one 24 hours later after being very sickly and trying hard to save her.

3 started to hatch but did not hatch.

is this a good batch rate? Bad hatch rate?
Thank you!

So not counting the three which didn't develop (possibly were infertile)
It looks like you got a hatch rate of ~73% this batch. That's not a bad hatch rate.

Generally for non-shipped eggs, a hatch rate of around 80% or above is considered good. But there are other factors that kind of skew results sometimes.

That's a pretty good hatch rate, especially good for your first, and especially good if you were using a Styrofoam incubator.

The ones that ended up dying after they hatched, did you help them out of the shell?

The ones that were dead in the shell, had they pipped or no?
