Hello All,

It's Day 4 today but just (day 18) My Chickcozy incubator counts from 21 to 0.
Hen eggs some full size, some Pekin (layed Monday, shipped form SA to NSW arrived Wednesday where I rested them till 2pm Thursday and put them in incubator. So Day 1 was 6th March.

Day 1 and 2 they were most probably in my Chickcozy at a lower temp than I would have liked around or thought they were at : 99F and 98.8F/ 98.9F because I didn't realise my Chickcozy was saying it was 99.5F but when I put the Govee in it read 99 or 98.9 so I think first 2 days were not as warm as ideal.

In other words they were at 99 or 98.0 intead of 99.5F. I have now set Chickcozy at 100F, and Govee measures 99.5. Humidity as stayed late 40s to early 50s.. not so worried about that or should I be?. But pretty much around 50%

Also in the 24 hours I left my eggs to rest after they were shipped from another state, they were just in lounge room ( I did not have a cool room) and didn't realise I still had to turn them a few times), they were lest still pointy end down as they were, I think I picked one or 2 of them up to show family but thought rest meant rest LOL.

Anyway its Day 4 (just) and I have candled with the Chickcozy candler on top (probably not as good as a proper torch candler), should i get the brinsa one?

I don't really see veins or a big dots on any of them. They all look a bit different. Some I think look very clear but others there is black but I can't see any veins. I am going to try again tonight in darkness.
Beginning to think on my very first incubation there might be 0 chicks. :( after waiting a year for my eggs.

I probably should jut wait till day 7 or 8 and leave them alone which I can do. There is an automatic egg turner thing.
Maybe I will try again tonight on day 4.5 when dark and see if I can see veins.. thought I should be at day 4. Its the end of the season now, I probably won't get any more eggs.
I have Gold Laced Wyandotte, Black Australorp, Light Sussex, Sebright rare, Bantam Chocolate Orphington (rare), Pekin Lemon Cukoo, Pekin Mottled black blue.
24 in total, will be selling/giving away all roosters and hens I can only keep 6 or 7. A this rate I'm not confident I will have the the problem of rehoming.... :(

Give it another day or two then candle again. I hope that you have at least some of them growing!! Take pictures of any you aren’t sure of. Sometimes eggs get so damaged in shipping that they don’t develop no matter if the conditions are absolutely perfect. I have experienced this. Last year alone I had 3 different batches of shipped eggs that had zero eggs develop!! (Personally I think that the biggest issue was how the sellers packaged the eggs, but all sellers tend to think they are doing things perfectly right and most of them aren’t open to hearing suggestions from buyers that have zero eggs hatch.) Last year I had over 100 eggs shipped and I thought I would be able to sell of the extras, but unfortunately I kept every girl that I hatched (only 9!!) and gave away every male that I grew out because no one is willing to pay for a rooster around here, not even from show breeders.

Anyways, I hope that you will get some chicks!! Keep us posted!!!

Thank you Slothinc,
Glad you had some hatch. Yes I will give away Roosters, the main thing I want is a good home for them. I'm in Rouse Hill, Sydney NSW, area so hopefully there will be some takers from the rural areas around here.

I just tried again some candling again (gosh couldn't help myself). with my sons small torch and went into a totally dark bathroom. It seemed to work better than the chickcozy candler. I put the egg side ways, instead of standing up straight.
I only did a few . For most I could not see anything , One of the Sebrights I feel is infertile. I only received 2 Black Australorps, but feel they are both either not fertile or have not taken, :(

but I did see a spot and veining on one of my Pekin Lemon Cukoo, so very excited. Will do the rest tonight because I can't help myself or even weight till Day 7/8 haha.
Whats wrong with me? haha. I was also always the one that had to know the gender of my babies.. couldn't wait to find out at birth LOL

Yay so glad you have at least one developing!!! I love candling! Right now I am doing emu eggs, and it is torture, as they can’t be candled at all.
