So I've done some research alreadya nd identified it as a German Nun Pigeon. Its white with brown tail and head...Id get a pic but "she" is sleeping at the moment. Are these rare or hard to come by? I found her in a hotel paking lot and dont know what to do with it. I have chickens but no indoor birds.... Thanks!

i just looked up a picture. That is definitely a fancy pigeon and probably not a wild one. Maybe it got lost and couldn't find it's way home? Have you looked on your local craigslist under Lost and Found? Maybe you could post there saying you found it. There might be a pigeon rescue in your area that would take it in. You probably don't want to take it to an Animal Control, as they might just put it to sleep. Hopefully you can find its owner or someone local who would like it.

Wow! Germans Nuns are usually considered a "fancy pigeon" for showing. Or....someone in your area may be training tumblers and this one got off track. It would be rare to see one in a parking lot! Does it have a band on one of it's legs? If so, there are several websites where you can report, the bird has been found, so it can be returned to it's owner. Here is one: http://www.npausa.com/foundpigeon.htm. This also is a great place to report you found him and to learn a lot more about Pigeon care: http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/

As far as care goes.....because of not knowing what it may have been exposed to, I would keep it away from the chickens. Pigeons are seed/grain eaters. Chicken feed will not do. Wild bird seed will suffice for now. The water dish needs to be fairly deep.....2" or so. Pigeons drink like they are using a straw. Pigeons also love a good bath. A good "bath tub" type container should only be as deep as his chest. Just in case he has picked up any external parasites, I would mix some Apple Cider Vinegar to the tub. 1 TBL to 1 GAL is the usual dosage, but if he has never tasted it before, he may be hesitant. Pigeons will always taste the bath water before they decide to bathe. It's okay to start with a lower amount and just increase it gradually. I add ACV to my Pigeons drinking water as well.

Pigeons don't really like to "perch" they prefer to "ledge". LOL That's my terminology to describe how they rest. Flat boards are more comfortable than round perches.

Please PM me if you decide to place him/her.

I will leave that up to anyone who claims to identify the breed. I will contact some of those associations to track the owner because it does have a band. Thanks to all that have replied!
