I have an almost two day old chick who seems to be havig a hard time thriving. Shes not running around much or being as active as her clutchmate. I decided to giver her a drop of poly-vi-sol to get her going, and she immediatly began gagging and sneezing. I understand she may have inhaled some but its been ten minutes and shes still doing it. She is peeping and running to Mom when I put her down so i feel she will be okay, but I do need my nerves settled as to why she is acting like this. Thanks

She's doing it because she inhaled it. Birds take a while to recover from inhaling a drop of liquid. She should be fine. Mine inhale them every time I try that unless I just stick the dropper way into the back of the throat first. I have the worst luck with this in the world. Even with my cockatiels, if I give them a drop of medicine the way the vet says to do it, they end up getting it in the wrong tube.

Thank you! She did stop after about a half hour! I thought maybe she was just letting me know that it tasted as bad as it smelled! Haha
