While picking up some ducks for a friend I ended being sold a trio of ringneck pheasants.. I know nothing of pheasants the male looks kinda creamy buff color...but my friend just told me they don't raise thier own babies?

So went out to get some pics after my phone charged... And my male panicked and wedged himself through my pen wire 2inch by4 .... And bye he went, pretty sure he his miles down the road

That happens, you need a smaller wire 1x1 but you know that now. Research next time or ask questions and don't be embarrassed to ask. Everyone starts out inexperienced and without knowledge. Research should be your first avenue as not to ask common knowledge questions. Much information can be found here on BYC.

In saying that .....kinda creamy buff color- without pics its hard to say, but if its a male and that color it must not be that old. Its hard to tell the male from a female when young. Females will keep those colors but darker so to speak. Without pics, you cannot make an age or sex call unless they are in adult feathers. With age on males you usually go by the spur after it reaches adulthood. there is no mistaking a rooster from the hen in adulthood. Sorry it got away.

as a possibility if you bough a trio, the others may call it back if its young so I would not give up on it just yet. a fish large net "tight net" works well to help catch them, They prefer to run than fly and the have no problem flying. Still, if its a two day no show, then most likely its gone for good.

Dear god ...No it will not squeeze though as an adult bird. Lol. An adult ring neck is between the size of a game hen and chicken....about the size of a football. Still, you need to consider your past, present and future plan of intent. Do you just want to raise the birds you have, or are you one of those people that will become addicted and decide to hatch the eggs a year from now. Psst" most all people here on BYC started out just wanting to raise a bird to an adult, now look what happened to them." ha ha ha

The fence you linked is fine and fairly bullet proof (durability wise) and will last a while. but Little chicks will be able to get thru this wire, larger birds will not. Still, snakes will easily get thru and eat any eggs. You also should consider the fact that the 2x4 gap will allow the bird to stick its head outside the fence. It could break its neck (which is common) or a predator could take advantage of this and grab its head. You are not just trying to keep the birds in, but also keeping others out.

In saying that, the larger the area the birds have to evade danger and roam, the more suitable your choice in wire becomes.

lol I was worried there for a minute especially since I spent a good bit of my day cutting the wire. I thought of putting something up like the black garden cloth around the bottom area up (about 4ft high) when they are smaller to keep them in for sure. Thanks I can sleep now :)

How long did you have that roster for if you have had him for a while and he knows where the girls and food is he will come back I have a rooster at my grandparents house and has gotten out two time and every time come back all grandpa had to do is open the door and he hops right back in
