This sweet boy my daughter is holding did the cutest stuff today. One of our pullets is acting like she's going to lay an egg today. We were out doing coup chores and she was clucking and looking all over in every nook and cranny. He followed her into the coup and started helping her nest. They where squealing and chattering back and forth. Then he proceeded to escort her all around the run trying to help her find the right spot. He then took her in the coup and he got in a nest and started fluffing it up for her just squealing and chattering. She tried to get in with him but too tight of a squeeze for both of them. Lol it was so cute. I didn't realize roosters would do that!! He peeks in on the other girls when they are in the nest laying, but I have never seen him go that far. It was neat to watch... Just wanted to share.

Nice story.

When I brought home my first flock the adult cockbird got in a nest and gave a 30 minute speech, he never did it again that I saw. Dropped my jaw, I had not a clue.

Have also seen a cockerel stand near a newly laying pullet several times.

I didn't either, and I had not seen him do that with any of the other girls. He will go check on them when they are in the nest and "check" on them I guess. We videoed some of it and got some pics but I was shocked. It was so sweet. Lol guess he earned his keep for the time being. Lol
