Second chick to hatch four days after the first chick. This one has an attachment on the rear. Is this ok? Should I be doing something? Chick is awake moving around and chirping .

It’s still attached to the egg and chick so I’m going to leave it in the incubator overnight. It will be 12 hours in the morning. If it’s still attached should I keep it in there for a full 24 hours to see if it detaches? Is it ok to take it out and place in its own brooter with the attachment?

Well it’s the next day and the eggshell and long portion of the umbilical cord is detached but the large yellow bulge or bubble is still at the top of the cord between its legs. Definitely looks like bulge on cord like it was blocked or twisted causing block, chick doesn’t seem too affected by it just that it struggles to walk. Will keep updating. Currently two hours in brooter day+ 1/2 old.

Chick doing ok. Almost fully dry and bulge is shrinking a little bit. Chick is drinking and pecking at food but not fully eating yet. Used bathroom once so far.

Keeping separate for time being. Chick seems to still be ok spite the bulge still being there. Has shrunken a little more. Seems to be eating and going to bathroom normally. Might pull through will update in a week or so on final status .

Hi all the baby chick did really good for the first three days. Eating playing and drinking. The bulge shrunk a lot and appeared to not be affecting it at all. However yesterday I came back from running to the store and it all of the sudden seemed slow and not willing to get up and eat or drink. I nursed it through the night and morning but it just was week and sleepy. It just got worse so I wrapped it up to stay warm and held it close and eventually it just passed. Was a good learning experience and from what I read everywhere said that this would happen but I just thought mine would be different since it was so lively and normally functioning. Threads and posts were correct it didn’t make it. Was a sweet little thing though while it was here. RIP little bantam.
