Okay, so I'm new and wasn't sure quite what to do about this chick, so I thought I would just ask. Two weeks ago, I had a group of chicks (6) and one of the eggs got stepped on or something, cause the shell was concaved slightly, but the membrane was still intact and the baby was pipping. I figured mama hen just stepped on it when moving around, and let the chick do it's thing. After a day and softening the membrane where the egg had cracked with warm water ( it got dried to the chick's face) the chick was out and perfectly fine.

Yesterday, I got another egg with the exact same issue, but I figured the baby would be fine, which it is, but there was a slight problem. It needed help, as the inner membrane created a second shell around the chick. I did the same thing as the previous egg and put warm water on it to help it soften. I tore a little of the membrane away from it's foot and it came out by itself without any complications ( it's vent already detached and no blood). It still has a little bit left on it's right wing and side of face, but I went out maybe twenty minute later and there was something off with its left eye. It's a little swollen on top of its head and the upper lid is raised. He acts normal, if not extremely exuberant for a chick that just hatched. I wasn't sure if it's something genetic, just a deformity, if it got caught on the egg or something worse? If there are any ideas as to what or if someone else has had this issue, please let me know, Thank you!

looks like the eyelid got stretched and hasn't shrunk back. Does it blink and close the eye? I would put a drop of cooled boiled water (or saline if you have it) in it 3 or 4 times a day for a few days to keep the eyeball moist and hope that it shrinks back over time as the chick grows

It is able to blink somewhat, but not very often, just using its third eyelid to keep its eye from drying. I do have some saline drops, so I will try that and try to pick up some antibiotic ointment as soon as possible.
