Wanted to say a quick Hello. My name is Amanda. My boyfriend and I moved to "The middle of nowhere" in September on 28 acres. We knew we wanted chickens so that we could have fresh eggs but when we started researching which kind to get we became sort of obsessed! We got an incubator and hatched 4 American Bresse and 5 French Black Copper Maran chicks 3 weeks ago. They are already getting so big! We have some more in the incubator currently, we have some black Silkies, Cream Legbar and more Bresse.
(realized after we purchased all the eggs that maybe we shouldn't have tried so many different breeds at first!)

Anyway, just wanted to kind of introduce myself. I look forward to reading what everyone has to say and hopefully learning a lot from the site! I've lurked around here quite a bit and always get caught up in threads! I will definitely be needing a lot of advice!

Hello Amanda! Welcome to BYC! Good luck to you on your chicken adventure.

Thank you! I've been to the site quite a few times but registering is a whole different story! There is so much to check out it's a bit intimidating! I usually just wound up here after searching chicken questions on Google!

Wow successful hatches so early in the game - good for you

Thanks, not totally though! We had a little over 30 eggs and only got 9 to hatch :( one was fully developed and didn't make it after he pipped or we would have had 10 :( I heard it wasn't good to try to help and we waited too long :(
I think a lot of our problem was getting eggs shipped from so many places and we were so anxious we kept candling/checking on them so opening and closing the incubator a lot was probably a bad call. Hope to have even better luck this time!

And thank you everyone! I tried to multiquote but failed at it, I will get the hang of it eventually haha.
