I have a staggered hatch going on in my incubators. I use one LG as an incubator, and one as a hatcher you see. I originally set 4 BO eggs from some chickens I was given but the chickens are OLD. The rooster looked to be about 100 and the hens aren't much younger. 4 eggs is all I got before they quit laying. So...I set the 4 but 1 was infertile and 2 quit early (probably due to the sheer age of the parents) and so imagine my surprise when I actually had one egg make it to lockdown! I put it in the hatcher last night and forgot about it, assuming it too would perish. A few minutes ago my husband yelled: "there's a bird in the bator!" and lo and behold, Bruno Jr. was born. He is none too happy about his solitude and the next group of babies isn't due until Friday at the earliest...oh well. Going to buy a feather duster I suppose... My silkie is still broody and her chicks are feathered enough to separate so maybe I will try to slip him under her...under close watch of course...
