This is our first attempt at a coop. We went to a farm and saw one of these and thought wow our kids would love chickens and what a cute little house. Well we got the chickens now what???? We waited till the poop was all over the back yard and there running amuck in the garden b4 we got around to the coop. Mainly due to a trip to hawaii and lack of a definite coop plan. We saw a few Arks we liked but no real plans to follow so we just went down and got some bulk wood and started winging it. We got the basic shape now done and its starting to look ok. just got to finish the wire, door, ramp, feeder/waterer, and perhaps stain it. I made it out of redwood and was thinking a stain might preserve it. Is there a stain friendly to chickens? Here are some pics. any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

i thought it was going to cost alot but I found a place to get rough redwood at a reasonable price. Cost a bit more but hope it will last. So far I have about 300 in it. isnt to bad I think. wait....... this is for chickens...........dang it.......

Heh!

It's all so much fun that it's easy to forget that part completely!!!

All's well, though - that's a fine looking ark and it will look great in your yard (while the garden grows back!).
