i have 6 chickens in my flock. They are all different breeds carefully chosen. I have 1 that lays eggs about every other day (polish crested). So they are cute little eggs. I have 2 that are 22 weeks(Colombian Rock, and Brown Leghorn) they are getting big. Their wattles(my wife calls them bolognas ) are big and red, but still no eggs. I've tried talking to them and showing them the egg I get from the polish crested and still nothing. Are my girls stubborn and making me wait on purpose because they know how badly I want those eggs? Do I need to ring them out like a sponge to help push the first one out? I would never say it to their faces but I am starting to resent them for it. Seriously though I wouldn't think I was doing anything wrong (diet or care) since the one is laying and they are beautiful delicious eggs but I have been racking my brain becoming self conscious about my chicken care abilities.

LOL :yuckyuck

I've got 10 pullets. 7 are 22 weeks, 1 is 21 weeks and 2 are 18 weeks. Only one is laying. She started laying 10 days ago and has laid an egg almost every day. The others I keep going out and telling them to stop being so lazy. Really, though, chickens mature at different rates, just like people. Check their pelvic bones, right below the vent. 1 finger width between and they aren't close to laying, 2 finger widths and you've got a few weeks, 3 and they will lay really soon.

My kids ask how can we tell when/who is laying. I tell them we have to check the butt and I am not doing it. Who cares.

Lol

Listen very carefully my feather loving friend, in no time at all you will receive all the eggs you need! give your girls some time to mature and you will be so blessed with eggs ,,,, It was hard for me at first as well but now I have more eggs than me and my neighbors can eat! I may let some even become chicks, I have 3 roosters as well.
Friend, learn chicken mathematics, you are going to have a great time with your chickens just as I am!

Don't feel bad, I have 6 pullets each 23 weeks old no eggs, tiny pink wattles, small light combs, pelvic bones a finger and a half apart. I gave up asking them for eggs, I figure when I stop nagging they will start producing

I sooo feel your frustration! I have a few that look like grown ash adult hens! They walk around, beg for treats, living the good life! NO EGGS. They don't even try to check out the nest boxes. Ive talked to them, Ive threatened them, Ive checked their pubic bones, they are 2 finger widths. They don't care. Some are over 5 mths old! Look at this big ash hen, walking around, not laying any eggs! This photo was 2 weeks ago, her face is much redder and bigger now.

Mine were freeloaders until august 11th. We finally got one egg! We were getting one every other day from at least one of the girls. Then we got one from the EEs and a speckled brown one on the same day! So now we're averaging 1 - 2 eggs a day and they're so cute and little. But out of five girls, I think we still have some freeloaders.
