I'm a chicken raiser wannabe. I live in suburbia in Texas (Temple, Texas) and haven't had the room until now. My son lives on 5 acres about 12 miles from me but has never been interested in any sort of livestock until now. But I've always wanted to do it all, from chickens to hogs and cattle. I'm a retired aircraft avionics technician, hence the name avonyxtec ( A V Onyx Tec. ). Sorry, ladies, I don't sell Avon. :o( With the shortages we're experiencing due to the Corona virus my son has suddenly decided that it might be a good idea to raise some chickens. So I'm jumping on the opportunity before he changes his mind. This is the best source I've found to get good information from people who have been where I am now. So, let's get started.

Hello, and welcome! Glad that you joined! Good luck with starting your future flock! Find someone who has a hatching addiction, and ask them for either a couple of hen's and/or pullet's that are just starting to lay. That way if you also get some chick's too, you will still have some egg's while the chick's are growing out.
