Hi everyone. I am still trying to finish my coop so I can post it. In the mean time, been a while since I have been on here. My RIR is definitely a rooster. She started crowing about the beginning of August. I didn't change her/his name though. She is still my Ruby. I think it is possessed though. The other girls(real girls) started laying about 4 weeks ago. All are 26 weeks today. All except for 1(dumplin) one of my Black Australorp, I have 2, Dolly is my other. So Miss Dumplin' has had all the signs, squatting, deep red comb, very vocal but is not laying yet. I have not even seen her attempt to get in a nest box yet. All girls a good and healthy. Been getting great eggs from everyone else. Should I worry that she won't lay? Would appreciate any input that you could give me.

No worries. Sounds like she is getting close. Just like humans, some chickens seem to mature at a little bit different times. She'll get there. Just make sure you are providing her with a quality layer feed and oyster shell.

It's also possible she is laying eggs where you can't find them. Hens often have a hidden nest especially if they are allowed to free range.
