just ordered new chicks

i will get my chicks on feb 1

i got 4 females of each bread i wanted + 1 rir rooster

4 barred rock
4 rir
4 black star
4 red star
4 buff orps
4 leghorns

cant wait to post pics of them and what my set up is


i have never had a rooster before but i wanted to know if he will be able to make all the eggs fertile ? and will he stick more with the rirs or will he go buck wild

mc murray yeh. i had 20 before just no rooster and now i am down to 11 bc i sold off i bunch of them. and i have to post a pics of the 4 babies i got for free the are living in my basement for the winter and untill they get old enough to go in to the coop they are 3 strong barred rocks mixxed with rir also a white something that i cant tell what it is

Not sure but I think there is a ratio of rooster per hens that most people use to gaurantee fertility. (Isn't is one roo can effectively service 14 hens?) You may need another roo...ask someone who knows more than me!

If so you may want to add him to your order now b/c they will get along much better if they grow up together. Blessings, Keri

I just ordered a mix bunch myself. I only really wanted a few JGs but since the min is 25 I ordered, Brown Leghorn, Salmon Favorelles (beautiful!), BO, Golden Polish, Sultans and Jgs of course. I will sell a lot of them. I also have 30 eggs in the bator due to hatch Dec. 12. I'm so excited!!!
