Ok so my chickens all love food and from past experiences if when I throw food out they don’t come out of the coop…sadly they’re dead. Today was different tho, one of two survivors from the first batch of chickens I ever got, he’s a beautiful lavender Orpington and despite being so aggressive towards everyone else they don’t even want to go in my coop, he only attempts to attack me rarely and we respect each other. This morning I threw out food and then realised he wasn’t out yet so I finished watering them and took a deep breath knowing that until I open that door he is neither alive or dead like the schrodingers cat, but sure enough he was on the rooster perch perfectly fine but there was a turd on his back (couldn’t get it off but it is raining today), he had all of his reflexes and reacted normally and went outside and started eating. It was sprinkling when I found him and it’s 60 (15.5 C) degrees outside which is cold enough to make my Guinea marshmallow look like a poofy marshmallow, my coop does stay pretty warm so that might be why he stayed in but I’m still worried if he is sick, here’s a picture of foghorn after he left the coop

I know what you mean about steeling yourself to open that door. 😩

It’s probably nothing, but you know your birds, and you know when they are acting out of the ordinary. Just keep an eye on him for a day or so.

Also, I LOVE the name Foghorn.
Would he be mad if there was a Foghorn II somewhere in the world?

In addition, if he is getting older he might start to be a little less enthusiastic about coming out in the rain.

Even my one-year-olds sometimes turn up their beaks at cold rain.

Forghorn el leghorn, the lavender orp and Mrs prissy the buff orp

How is Foghorn doing?
He’s a handsome man! 🐓
A year and a half is still very young, like teens or twenties I’d say.

He’s doing great, been taking care of my guineas and hens, not slept in since. Here’s a pic from the weekend when tornadoes were tearing through and it was raining nonstop

See him at the bottom making sure I stay away from them
