Just rescued last Wed these 4 chicks, now I'm in full chicken mode, just got a coop today, so I got to get that built. I was told from the local feed store they look about 3 weeks old. Hopefully they are hens, because the city said only 1 rooster as long as he is quiet till 7am.

Anyone know what they are. I have 4 different looking ones. At least they are all super cute. The black and white one is super friendly, he is always jumping on my hand when I'm in there cleaning. The the gold and other black on is really interested in me, but the white/yellow one is very scared still. Not sure if that helps.

The 2 black ones could be barred rock, dominique, Dark sex links, etc... the one with the yellow spot on the head is a rooster guaranteed!! the other seems to have a full black head and will be a hen.. the others I can't help ya there.

also at 5 weeks old they will become mini dinosaurs and look ridiculous.. they are close so they are between 3 and 4 weeks old

I was really thinking he was a rooster because of all the other posts on the white spots. Oh well, I guess 1 out the 4 won't be so bad. He is so friendly too. So hopefully he will be a very mellow quiet little man, because I'm not to sure how happy my neighbors are going to be if he's noisy. We do have full 6 foot wood fence, so no one will even see the coop, and I did buy one that I can lock him in every night, not sure if that helps.

So they are older then what we thought. Man I really need to get that coop, and their run started. I at least bought the coop today, with a built in run, and I'm making another 10 ft by 18 ft run for them to free range when I don't have our dogs locked up. On wed when I took them to the feed store to learn how to take care of them and pick up supplies, they said about 2 1/2-3 week. So that's good. Thanks

I really hope you all are wrong and he really is a she. Because he is my favorite one. I swear I could stick him in my shirt pocket. He loves me, I mean loves me. I will be so very sad if he is extremely noisy and makes my neighbors mad, I don't know if I could get rid of him. He might have to leave in the garage at night. At least I'm putting them on the end with the the neighbors that has 3 ducks. My other neighbor would probably call on me everyday even though we are allowed 8 hens and 1 rooster. He calls at least once a week on my terrier, my terrier barks his head off at me when I'm practicing Agility with him. And that is the only time he barks. Poor animal control, they have to love my house.

Well I raise a few different breeds and I have a few that are like that as chicks.. Well if he is calling bout the dog you will have complaints bout the rooster.. Locking him in the garage prolly wont work either.. But if you are allowed a rooster well make plenty of sweets for the Animal Officers to get on their good side haha..

I do dog rescue, and I know every single animal control officer, and they have to drive all the way out here to just talk to me every time. Usually they all bring me a Pepsi, and they always say Hey Karen, thanks for the break! Seriously, its so lame. I know someone really close has one I hear him every morning. I'm very sad if this is the case. But hey at least he's not in the bottom of a trash can anymore. I will have to lock him in a crate in my husbands sound proof studio every night then. But not sure how much my hubby will love that. He's just finally accepting that I'm keeping these chicks. He's not so worried about the chickens as much as having to help me make them dog proof, since we have 2 dogs of our own, and do rescue, we usually have around 4 dogs here all the time. But I have it all laid out in my head. And I'm going to dig a trench at least a foot deep to put the wire down in the ground, so I don't get a digging dog.

Any idea's on what they are? I'm really thinking after looking at pictures that the black/white roo is a Barred Rock, but what are the others. I guess I should get them out and take better pictures.

No clue on the others.. The 2 Blacks could be Dark Sex links, Barred Rocks etc.. Also a good tip for the fence would be to angle it out away from the chickens. Predators will dig down and close to a fence and not at a angle so they will hit the fence if its at an angle. 12 inches is good if you can do 18 inches that will be great also. Its not a good/typical idea to lock up chickens separate usually.. Granted too if he sees any lights or hear a noise he will crow as an alarm even on roost at night.
