Just set my third clutch...

First one - end of April. Hatch was 4/13, the unhatched ones were apparently not fertile. Second set - siamese broodies, no eggs out of 30. This clutch - due to hatch July 25. I have a broody welsummer, but she's not setting in a good spot, so I moved her last night. She stayed until this morning when the other hens wanted to lay their eggs in the nest box above her. She left the nest. So, I grabbed one of my Buckeyes that sat on clutch #2 (I think. Or, maybe it's one of the Bucks that has been wanting to set, but DH kept taking her eggs.) Anyway, I grabbed her, put her on the nest, and she has settled right in. I'm going to candle Mon. night to see if there is any development. Then we're leaving Tues. for two weeks, and should have chicks hatching the day of our return. If any of them are fertile, that is. I'm hoping that one of the first hatch is a rooster since my poor guy may not be keeping up. (I have 18 hens)

Sounds good to me! Our first clutch in June I stumbled upon in the bushes, moved a few times (hen wouldnt stay in brood boxes I created) and then a 2nd hen walked in on day 16 or so and took over.... Was surprised and pleased to see 4 hatch out ....
And-- like you! Came back from a few days away to find broody #1 sitting on another clutch of eggs... I marked 5 for her to set on... So hatch dates are between July 19th-21st....
Heres crossing our fingers for the both of us (we only have 10 hens, and our Roo is a busy boy!)...

It's a busy summer for us, so "flock management" isn't exactly happening. Gone for 6 out of the 12 weeks, with my youngest son's wedding thrown in just for kicks and giggles! So, I'm just letting them do their thing. Glad the Buckeye was broody. The wellie is going to be thrown out of her chosen nest box daily so hopefully she'll give up. Will be waiting to hear how your hatch goes!
