I'm on the front porch at our farm, in rocker, feeding chickens treats. What r u doing?

I'm at work and jealous of you. I love doing exactly what you describe, and just sitting and watching them peck and scratch and the chicks play. My husband things I am being chicken crazy and lazy but it's just so relaxing. Why is TV acceptable and chicken watching not?

Don't let anyone tell you not to retire, I'm lucky, I retired early, wife said she was tired of keeping my books. I can't see my neighbors place, nor can I see any passing cars. Just sitting, and a swinging all by lonesome, wife will come out when she wants me to cook on the outdoor pit that's sunk into the front patio. I wished she loved the country as much as I do. I did relocate a bluebird nest box to the other side of garden, now chicken yard this morning. Wire fenced that doesn't keep them in, they are free range. I do have a 380 pistol in my pocket to just shoot at the hungry critters, looking for a free chicken meal. Never have seen any in the daytime, Yet! Chickens stay pretty close to me, I reward them with treats, a couple of Ritz crackers, old piece of bread, and fruit. Thanks for the reply

That sounds like the good life. I especially not being able to see neighbors or the road, too. Is it hot down there yet?

No not even close to hot for Texas, I will be putting one of those automatic all metal chicken coup doors on soon, so I can be gone when it get hot, !00+. Wishful thinking, will be right here, but on the in the inside with the a/c going, after about 10a.m.. In the mornings, its tolerable on the front porch with ceiling fans running, with iced water, in rocker. Somedays it stars off in the middle 80's last of July threw September. Be careful what you wish for?

We moved up here from Mississippi a few years ago. My husband keeps talking about moving back to the gulf and I remind him about the brick wall of heat and humidity as soon as you open the door in the morning!

SunHwaKwon, what you said was all true, living down there, in the suberbs. but you left out about all the mosquitoes. The only place I like when we go for a stay is on the gulf coast just staying behind the sea shore with southerly breezes. When the winds turns out of the North, the wind blows the mosquitoes out of the salt marches onto the beach. Then everyone is reaching for the repellant. Yuk!
