I have a little bit of a dilemma. I thought my 1st set of eggs were all duds so I found and ordered some Easter Egg eggs. I found out a couple of days ago that I have one living chick growing in one of the 1st set of eggs. It was to late to canceled my egg order and I received them yesterday and set them this morning. my 1st chick isnt due to hatch for 7 days so I couldnt wait to set my new eggs. Now that I have an egg that needs to go into lock down in 3 days should I raise the humidity of the whole incubator or is there a way I can segregate the one egg? Will it be very detrimental to the new eggs to be in that high humidity for 4 days? If I keep the humidity pretty low after the chick hatches do you thing that will help the new eggs to lose the right amount of fluid? Also this egg with the chick had a detached air cell, do I still lay it on it side during lock down?

Also here are my new eggs. I marked the air cells on them. Do they look ok, not to small?

Thank you everyone!

Are you (or someone)home to monitor the eggs on a regular basis? If so I would wait until the one egg pips and then I would higher that humidity to 65% Once you higher the humidity, leave the bator shut until that chick hatches unless there' s a very good reason to have to open it. Once he hatches out, get the humidity back down. At day 7 or whenever the little guy hatches and goes to the brooder, Check your air cells and mark them and see where they stand, then on day 14 check and mark them again and if they are significantly too big, run dry for a day or two until they even out where they need to be.

Do you have any plans to get that little one a friend if it hatches?

I am home almost all day, Im lucky enough to be able to be a stay at home Mommy so Ill be able to do all that! What do I do about turning the eggs? I dont have an automatic one :( Do the cells on my Easter Eggs look to small to start with? They are all nicely placed just seem small to me. No unfortunately because we cant keep our chicks I wont be getting him/her a buddy :( Ill probably bring him/her to my friend that is taking the little guy or girl as soon as I can so its lonely for the least amount of time.

You don't really have to start judging air cells until they are 7 days and have had time to start loosing moisture. As for turning, if you wait until it pips to do a "lockdown" it shouldn't be more than 24 hours or so before the chick is out and you can resume turning the rest. I don't know what you are using for days 1-17 for humidity but on day 18 for the one egg I would make sure it's at least 45% and then up to 65% as soon as you see the slightest external pip. I would suggest having a couple sponges and wetting them down when it pips and sticking them in the bator instead of playing with filling the wells with extra water. (Unless that doesn't give you enough humidity, then you might have to add to the wells.) I would not leave the chick in the bator any longer than neccessary because he will bounce around on the other eggs and they are only going to be about a weekish along and you don't want them getting too jarred.

I have been keeping the humidity around 30-40%. I have one large well under the chicken wire on the bottom and 2 small wells I installed in the upper corners of the incubator. I have been able to keep it between 30-40% with just the 2 small wells filled with warm water. They are in egg carton right now and Im tilting them back and forth, should I take the one that has a chick in it and put it on its side from day 18 and on?

I would, just so that you can still tilt the others until that one pips.

We went on lockdown today and I candle the one egg with a chick in it and Im now concerned that it seem small or behind on growth. There seems to be quite a bit or room left in the egg at day 18. I have a feeling if it makes it to hatch it will be a couple of days late to hatch for some reason. I have keep the temp steady between 99 and 100. There was only one small incident that the temp drooped to 95 because my 1 year old son accidental turned the incubator off. I noticed it not to long after it happened and got it back up and running to temp in 5-10 mins. The 6 new eggs seem to be doing good so far! I candled them to check their air cells and they have already gotten bigger and the yoke is looking much darker already! I cant see any veining or anything but we are only on day 5 for those so Im not to concerned yet! With my last batch the yokes never looked darker so Im hoping that a good sign! lol Im just glad the air cells are looking bigger since I have have had the humidity up for the egg due to hatch soon!
