My husband and 4 children and I have just embarked on our new adventure of raising chickens. We ordered 12 chicks from Chickens for Backyards and they were not only all healthy and active when they arrived, but they also sent us 3 extras! So we now have 15 chicks and, if they all make it to the Spring, we'll have a veritable egg business!

Here are our sweet little chicks upon arrival:

We have 2 Welsummers, 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Easter Eggers, 3 Buff Brahma Bantams, and 3 Barred Cochin Bantams.

We have yet to build our coop, but that is next on the list :)

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your chicks! I hope you have space for those extra 3 they threw in there. I'm glad you ended up with some buff orpingtons. They sure are a sweet breed that is great with kids! All those other breeds are friendly and great for families too. I hope you all enjoy them as they grow! You'll be getting lots of eggs once they are grown.

Welcome to BYC. Boy, they crammed a lot of chicks in that little box. Glad no one got stomped on. I tend to be wary of "free extra chicks," they usually end up to be cockerels. You should mark them now - to see if I end up being right.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Your chicks are adorable. Thanks for posting the pic. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds (like Orpingtons and Brahmas).) If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your coop built.
