Well, after 3 long weeks of keeping eggs in the incubator, we got one lone chick. At first I was worried that she (at least I HOPE it's a she!) would be lonely. I placed her in a rather shallow plastic container in my bathroom with her food and water container and a little stuffed kitty for her to snuggle with, and hung the heat lamp overhead. We named her Independence, and we call her Indie for short. Well, this little baby has the most delightful little personality! There are four of us in the house so someone is always in and out of the bathroom, and no one can resist stopping to talk to Indie. She loves to hop around her little box, and a fly found it's way in there the other day, and at only 4 days old she caught it and ate it! I was shocked! She is a lovely little baby, honey colored with chipmunk stripes over her eyes, and whenever I go in there I stop and I lean my head down close to her and I just talk to her. I tell her how pretty she is, and how much I love her, and she comes over and stands very close and listens to everything I say. She still runs when we pick her up, but once we actually catch her, she sits pretty still and lets us pet her. I have raised probably more than 40 chicks since April, though they were all hatchery chicks, but this little one has worked some magic on me and I find myself just crazy about this little one. I think it's because I hatched her out here at home, and I loved each little egg, even though she was the only successful hatch. I just wanted to share my little slice of happiness. I have 29 teenagers out in the coop right now, 15 four week old chicks in another brooder in my bathroom, and then there is little Indie. I am not 100% sure what she is. Her mother is either a BLRW or a BO, and her daddy is an EE I assume from the chipmunk stripe. She is so sweet and quiet, unlike my SLW that are out in my coop right now. So maybe she is a BO/EE cross? I dunno. Don't really care so long as she is healthy and continues to thrive. I love her and am so happy to have her in our lives. My kids adore her too. Once I can get pics, I will share. We're waiting on a new camera, and as soon as it's here, it's back to snapping tons of pics. Thanks for reading this everyone!

Congrats on the baby! Spoil her rotten

What a sweetie. I can hardly wait to see a photo. I'm glad there are so many of you to keep Indie company. I can't believe at only 4 days old she caught and ate a fly! Its got to be a girl since she is so smart

I am so glad you are enjoying you new fuzzytail! Pictures would be wonderful...

****A big word of caution---make sure that EVERYONE knows that they MUST close the lid EVERYTIME!! When my children were young, we had birds in the bathroom and someone left the lid up and two drowned...

How sweet! They are so adorable freshly hatched...well when they are older to but you know.
