Hi and
welcome-byc.gif
from central Mo. When you talk about setting are you wanting a hen to go broody, hatch, care for, and raise the chicks herself? For me the quickest way to get one of my girls to go broody is to put some chicks in a seperate section of the coop with them. It's like seeing chicks kicks their hormones in and the want to care for them. This winter I have put chicks outside in the coop after raising them inside for a few weeks and within 2 weeks my ladies were refusing to leave the nest box. It was two hens the first time, and now I have 2 more broody. I also have the chicks in with the main flock now and one of my Brahmas went straight into momma mode and totally bypassed the setting and hatching phase of things, lol. They are several weeks old now and about half her size no less. She still pick up food for them clucking away to let them know it's chow time, lol. I'm sure others will pipe in and let you know their secrets. I know some people recommend leaving eggs in teh nest boxes for a few days to see if anyone "adopts" them and decides to set. lots of different ways may work for you and your hens. Best of luck!
