A couple of months ago one of my hens went broody. Out of 8 eggs, she managed to successfully hatch out 4 from my jersey giant/australorp hens. The roo was a black copper marans.
So (because I'm bored) I was wondering this afternoon what color eggs MIGHT I expect from the 2 chicks that appear to be pullets?
The mama hens lay eggs that are oddly long and are a rosy/pink color. Instantly identifiable against the tans and browns of my wynadottes' or sussexs' eggs.
I have an EE who lays a dark brown egg - probably on the light end of the marans egg color scale. I had hoped that a couple of hers would hatch but the broody managed to break the other eggs or step on the chicks right after hatching.
I suppose that they'll probably lay eggs similar to the EE's - a darker brown than the average grocery store brown egg. ?
What do yall think?
