I see where people are going thru one end or another to degut the bird.....why cant you or can you cut them thru the chest from base to top and just take out the inards that way???
 
i guess you could, there would be the rib bones and or breast bone in the front you would have to cut through, through the back it would be the spine. then it would probably end up a bigger mess then what it would already be
 
It would be a mess to split them. The "bottom" is an easy, natural place to access all the nasty parts, plus it lets you cut it all off neatly at the vent. One thing you CAN do is to fillet your birds- breasting them out and removing the legs. This you can do without gutting or plucking them at all.
