1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first chickens a year ago March 22nd, when my daughter's friend gave her a chick for her 16th birthday. We had thought about getting chickens for several years, and I always felt intimidated by the lack of knowledge and learning curve. Nothing like a deadline to get me going. within a week we had added 9 other chicks to our brooder.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have 8 full grown hens and 3 roosters, and just got 9 sex link chicks this march

(3) What breeds do you have? 5 silkies, 2 wisenants ? (sp), 1 Rhode Island Red and 1 Bufforpington. We lost the buff, the 2 Wisenants and the first chick. They just disappered. didn't return to the coop in the evening. no signs of predators. We fantasize that they joined our neighbors large flock next door. :) After that we got 3 laying hens from another neighbor which included a Leghorn, a buff, and something else that is black and white speckled, can't remember. We also added 5 bantams from a niece who didn't want to care for hers any more (3 hens and 2 roosters)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
internet search
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
motherhood :) singing, reading fantasy and historical fiction, being with my parents and siblings who all live closeby, church activities.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have been married to a wonderful man for 22 years in June. We have 10 children. Boy 21, twin boys 19, girl 17, boy 13.5, girl, 11, girl 8.5, boy 6, girl 2, boy 8 months. We have a cocka poo poo small dog, and a geriatric cat with kidney failure, so she isn't long for this world. We homeschooled everyone for 18 years then put the 5 oldest into a small private school, while I continued to home school the other 3 young ones. Last year the twins graduated so in the fall I put the three younger kids into the private school. Now I am home alone with two babies, that's an adventure and all consuming. My life consists of feeding kids and animals, and getting babies to take naps. :)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

Welcome to the Backyard chickens community. I think you mean the Wyandottes breed
of chicken.

Hen Pen Jem nice to see Luke (?) surrounded by chickens. I remember when my young son used to play the game he always made Luke scatter the chickens.
