keeping chicks outside

When my hen hatched chicks, they would run around the yard when it was 50 degrees out, going back to momma when they needed to be warmed. Wondering after watching them if purchased chicks can be in an outside coop where they can move in and out of the brooder? Will they naturally stay in the warm when they need to?

Quite a lot of people brood outdoors.

As long as they have a warm place they can get to that's warm enough and are protected from getting wet and chilled it works fine.

there is no harm in it as long as you check on them and make sure there not to far away from the brooder
