Ok so my chooks think they are human and like to hang around our house which I would be fine with, however they insist on spending most of the day on my verandah which I would also be fine with except this is where my children spend most of their time and my chooks poop EVERYWHERE!! and toddlers and chicken poop are not a good combination, how can I keep them away from here without locking them up all the time?. Their coop is well away from the house and they are fed in their coop and they have 3 acres to roam around yet they prefer to hang out up here with us. God forbid I should leave a door open they just March on in and make themselves at home in my house. (See pic attached)

Chickens LOVE patios & porches & verandas & where their people are ;)
Whenever I allowed my girls to roam, they chose to hang out in the patio rather than out in the yard :barnie Every afternoon I'd have to do poop patrol, cleaning the patio but it wasn't so bad cause I ferment their feed and I only have 4 - 6 so there never was much & not stinky but still ...

So last year I decided to have DH make an enclosure they'd be confined. Used to feel guilty until the neighbor kept getting more dogs (last count 8), that would be at the fence watching. The girls do well & don't seem to mind. When the weather is nice, I bring them out into the mobile run, and of course they get "guilt" treats.

As oldhenlikesdogs stated you may want to fence off or enclose the veranda?

This is the close number 2 reason I confine my birds(#1 is hawks).
Some folks find a garden hose or squirt gun effective.

Know how old farm yard tableaus had the white picket fence around the farm house?
That picket fence was to keep the chickens, and other livestock, off the porch.

I guess they aren't teachable at all then hahha our verandah has a fence but they just fly up over it. I guess I could clip their wings. If only they didn't poop everywhere as I quite like them roaming around, my kids love to play with them and they really do think they are human, it's quite funny, we have found them in our cars if you leave the window down. They go and sit in my husband's toolboxes if he is working in the shed and keep him "company".
