Does anyone have any suggestions on good ways to keep chicken feed away from goats? Seperating the animals is not an option for several reasons I wont go in to.

One thought I had. What if I put up a wall mounted trough feeder...higher than the goats head height...and then put a perch about 6" out from the trough. This would allow the chickens to fly up to the perch and reach the food...but the perch would keep the goats from getting their heads in close enough to the food to eat it.

Any other ideas would be great!

thanks

we have a fenced in area for the chickens, we keep the feed in the chicken pen in big metal garbage cans. The chickens can get out through smaller spaces in the fence panels, but the goats can't get through.we have a gate there and feed the chickens inside the pen.
the goats always try to get in so we have to be very careful! goats live to eat!!!

I guess I breezed right past the part you said fencing was not an option? The area we made for the chickens is actually made into 3 areas, one is a nursery for smaller chicks, one for the bigger chicks, and the community pen for all. We have 15 goats, only the billy is fenced into a seperate pen, the goats have run of the property pretty much, but I have read that chicken feed is not good for goats, so my DH and I built the small area to keep the feed away from the goats, and for us to store the goat feed away from them too so they don't get into extra feed and bloat.
