Managing the poop in a compost pile outside the coop.Question on the composting are you adding all these clippings in the coop or talking about what your doing on the outside?
Deep litter in an outside run is about like your compost pile. It needs the right amounts of bio mass to digest and stay free of flies.
Pine shavings keep the covered coop/run floor dry. The PZD keeps the poop board dry. Outside where it rains needs bio digester. The brown, green, poop sets that up.
Deep little wood chip run starts this and needs other stuff added over time as well. I dump oak leafs some of the pine shavings after I Muck out the coop. As well as food scraps and other chicken fodder. PDZ is an absorbent deodorizer. The occasional broad cast of coop and area is sometimes all that's needed to knock down the flies
