Keet color question.

What color are the keets in the picture? I thought they were both pearl pied, but I'm finding some of them are growing up more like purple. (I don't have purple guineas, but then again I don't have Lavender guineas and lots of them hatch! lol) Thanks!

Royal Purple

The key to telling the difference when they are this little are the head markings (broad dark stripe or broken/squiggly dark stripes) and whether the white on their wings goes all the way up to the shoulders or not.

My Pearl Greys carry the partially pearled gene (recessive) so I get Royal Purple keets out of them quite frequently. Royal Purples are basically a Pearl Grey bird that (due to having 2 partially pearled genes), have less pearling... if that makes sense.

Thanks so much! I did notice the difference in the pattern months ago, but never thought it would mean a different color *sigh* I might have some customers wondering why their guineas aren't turning out right......Guess I'll be offering free replacements. lol
