Hello I couldn’t find anything here for Kenton county ordinances regarding backyard chickens so I thought I would post my experience. I’m glad to have this site to inform others but I would always encourage them to check their local ordinances with their local planning commission before starting a flock. Every location has different laws and ordinances.

In Kenton County it varies depending on acreage. If under 1 acre then you can get approved for backyard chickens. Be advised you do have to apply for approval and be accepted to own chickens. There is no cost. You may not own Roos and you can apply for max of six hens. The chick house must be 24 inches off the ground with enclosed run, clean, and predator proofed. The chick house must be 20 feet off residential property. Something to note if you ever stop owning chicks, all housing contents must be removed within 90 days from the property. You acknowledge that you know the rules and will abide by it or be shut down and could run the risk of fines.

I do consider Kenton County chick friendly since it allows hens. The local planning commission does require you to send in a map and plans of chick house on your property as it will appear in scale with your application. It took a week for my approval. I did call back once to check on my application after 1 week and received a happy approval. Hope this helps others if considering backyard chickens in Kenton County.

FYI if you have trouble with obtaining your parcel map from the local website, the planning commission will send you a pdf version with your permission then you can draw your chick house to scale with included dimensions. I also sent them a photo copy of my chick house including website link for information about it.

So far my neighbors are supportive and one loves to bring their grandchildren by to visit them.

If you are over an acre you will have to consult the local planning commission. Thanks! Hope you have many Happy Healthy Chicken Years

Just an update to clarify. I am in Edgewood and again each local ordinance even in Kenton County may be different and it is important to check before owning chickens.
