Do you think it was a fox? Sadly, our duck was "missing" for days. We did not know that she was nesting. She had a clutch of 12 eggs in a nest, in our flower bed. We have had a hawk take one of them before, but are now wondering if this is a fox. We have seen a red fox near our property.

I bet coon or possium or both, unless your fox only likes eggs it would have taken the whole duck and come back for the eggs.

An ermine will do the same thing. Kill and leave the birds. Usually, they come back to feed off the dead bodies. You could set a trap to see if something comes back to feed.

Sorry about your loss. That is hard. Perhaps you can save the eggs by incubation?
