We are very new to ducks and bought our first 4 without knowing much about them. We were told that they were 4 Khaki Campbell hens that were ready to lay the 2nd or 3rd week of July. We have only had them for probably 3 weeks. We were starting to think we had a boy because his head seemed like it was getting darker and becoming green. So I looked up about sexing and they said that boys have the feather curl and their mature head feathers would be dark green. Well, I went out tonight to look at them and I found 3 that have dark coming in on the head. Do Khaki Campbell hens get green on their heads because they don't have the feather curl or at least not like the one male. Please check out the pictures below and see if you can tell what I have. I do know that one is a hen as she doesn't have any green on her head or neck and she seems to quack louder than the rest.
The one of the left has the most green on the head, but no feather curl. Middle one also has green and a sort of sideways feather on "its" tail (you can kind of see it hanging to the left). One of the right has green behind the eye and the tail curl. One in the back (you can only see head) doesn't appear to have any green on the head or neck.
This is another picture of the one with the darkest head (one on left above). You can see here that he has no feather curl.
This is another picture of the middle one in the first picture. It doesn't really have a curl to the feather either. The one in the picture with no head is the darkest on from picture 2 again.
Also, I was told that these would start laying in July, but I can't even tell their gender yet so I would assume they are not mature? I read one place that ducks don't lay until they are 6-8 months old and other places 19 weeks....How am I going to know when they are ready?
