Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have had chickens on and off for about 5 years now

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have 7 beautiful girls.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I was given 2 Australorps (except one I don't think is an australorp has it has a pea comb ans lays blue eggs) 2 years ago. We found a little bentam rooster for them when they went broody and we now have 4 little girls from that clutch.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They're funny creatures, great garden companions, really friendly and easy care animals.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I grow Native Plants and that's my passion. I'm from New Zealand. I also love hiking, painting, knitting, spinning wool, playing piano and the guitar, reading books...

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a 3 year old son Mātai, my partner Alex also is very involved with looking after the chickens. I'm a plant nursery worker, a revegetation consultant and a landscape designer.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I was trying to find out why my second original Australorp (charky) was laying blue eggs on Google and several of the results where from this website so I thought I would just join and try to settle this mystery!
