On Friday, I am going to kill some bad roosters. I've never done this before and have some questions. .......
I am going to use an ax...it has rust on it...should I buy a new ax or clean this one? If so, what do I clean it with?

After I kill the roosters what do I put the meat in to freeze it ? Will a freezer baggie do? Do I have to immediately put the chicken in the freezer, or can I wait for 1/2 to 1 hour? How do I clean the rooster after I kill it. I'm sure it will get dirt on it when it flops around.

Sorry about all the questions.

Do you have a bench grinder? If so, sharpen it up and it should remove the rust with the wire part of the grinder.

I don't know about the processing part, as I let my DH handle that. But we use those ziploc freezer bags that use the air removal sealing thing for storing meat. I have left a bird in the fridge overnight before cutting it up to freeze it the next day.

Look in the meat bird section. They have a great thread on chicken processing.

Hmmmm Rooster are pretty tough. Especially if they are older than 14 weeks. I personally won't even attempt to eat them older than that.
I like to use a killing cone. Much easier for me. Turn them upside down into the cone with their head sticking out the hole. Then take a sharp knife and while you pull down on their head make a quick cut and stand back and let it bleed out. Much cleaner than the whole throw the chicken and watch it flop around idea.
