I have 2 brooders that we made and I put kitty litter on the bottom for easier cleanup. There is hardware cloth separating the chicks from the litter by about 2 inches, but I was wondering if any fumes off of the kitty litter would be harmful to the chicks. Never did this before, so just wondering if anyone else has every used it for easy cleanup in a brooder?

i definitely think that is not good! no offense.... but cedar shavings are bad, (from oils and fumes)... and that's just a NATURAL odor! i can't imagine how bad kitty litter fumes are!

What kind of litter is it?
Where is the brooder?
It doesn't sound bad to me, kitty litter is mostly clay. The scent may be an issue, but I don't know. If it's outside, I think it would be fine.
