See that's all I ask for... not that ID can't be faked, but at least be willing to ask for it. I have to show ID if I want my kid, so why shouldn't anyone who walks in off the street.
Volunteer wise... here you have to fill out an application that the district (not individual schools) does a background check on... supposedly anything more than a moving violation (parking ticket) will get you a rejection... you can appeal it, but that's what we're told. I've seen parents who had a disorderly conduct when they were 18 not bother filling out the form because they don't want the rejection. But, it's a good thing that someone with theft/fraud can't handle PTA funds, and anyone with any kind of assault (reg or sexual) can't get in... but that's to volunteer... NOT to walk in and get your child, eat lunch with them, etc. I was rather perturbed as a Room Mom to find that the teachers didn't even bother looking at the list of Approved Volunteers at all... and they told us RMs that is wasn't our job... said that the school was public property (and the nearby park too) so really couldn't ban a parent from attending... so... what's the point in doing the check if you'll let anyone waltz right in? Most of the "regulars" are known by everyone... so it's not too big a hassle or anything... but for people who aren't known they outta be willing to ask their name and make sure it's on the list before leaving them with 'their' child or anyone else's.
I'm 100% sure not all schools act this way, obviously since yours doesn't, but it really freaked me out that the staff (secretary, counselor AND principals all said the same) told me "We ARE NOT ALLOWED to ID anyone who claims they're from CPS"
No Allowed to make sure someone asking to be alone with a child is SAFE... not cool.
Wonder what this school's procedure is for visitors... at ours your supposed to sign in and put on a sticker in the office (right by the front -only unlocked- doors... but I've seen plenty who just waltz right in and the staff doesn't say doodly.
And in this case if it was someone they even just sorta recognized as 'family' then they prolly wouldn't say anything.
Whole thing bites the bit one... I hope they find that poor baby.
