La Fleche-why so rare?

I was looking for a couple of hardy large white layers. After checking henderson's chart I came across the La Fleche. Cool looking birds, cold hardy, perfect

. Why are they so rare, other than avoiding people, seem kind of cool. Is there a reason people don't want them? I found a breeder not 15 minutes from my house so I think I HAVE to hatch some eggs from him

. So, opinions on this breed?

Large, but I found them, I just wanted to know why they are so rare?

I have read that they are not very tame and not especially hardy. That might have something to do with their scarcity. People seem to want "sweeter" birds. And, low maintenance is a plus!
They are COOL looking, though.

Well, there have been folks on here with very tame La Fleches, so it is just a matter of your birds, I'm sure. There are a few people breeding them on this board. Just do a search on La Fleche and you'll see the many threads about them. I personally love their looks, especially the roos, and I guess the rare factor is interesting to me. I am going to try some next spring. We'll all have to check back with each other and compare notes

A very good friend of mine breeds & shows La Fleche & finds them great birds. To my friend, being a typical Welsh farmer, dual purpose utility qualities are very important. Apparently, like many French breeds, they are useful layers of good size eggs & the males have particularly good tasty breast meat. While I can't imagine he'd have cared much whether they were friendly I doubt he'd have kept them long if they were particularly wild, or aggressive.
