I know that someone else is working on a Gold Laced Orp project. From looking at genetics pieces parts and their efforts I started similar to her idea with a cross of Blue and Buff Orps. I figured the lacing of the blue showed the correct gene and it could be crossed and refined back to maybe eventually a Gold Lace. I know that she brought in a Wyandotte to start working the genes together, however, I started wondering. If there were two different paths followed or bases to get a Gold Laced Orp then what would be the affect of crossing a bird from each different background. Would the gold lacing continue or would it be wiped and likely end up with a totally different appearance?
As a note, I have just now gotten a couple of hens from the first cross and they appear as several others on the forums have looked with a red head and intermittent black edging on some of the breast feathers. I have yet to get a rooster out of the hatching process and think that this is probably what should be used to cross with the hens. Any ideas on that part would also be appreciated.
Thanks for input.
