Help. We have 12 RIR & 12 Black Stars. This is their 3nd season & we are only getting 11 to 13 eggs per day! They are free range, feed heathy with fresh water. We have walked our farm high & low, so don't tell me they are laying else where.
Next problem, how in the world do we idenify which is'nt laying?
Help

Black stars might not be so productive in their 3rd season, they lay alot in the first 2 then not so much.

I will tell you they may be laying somewhere else, just because you didn't find the eggs doesn't mean it's not happening. Coop them up for a few days to a week and see what you get.

Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for 2-3 days can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. They can be confined to coop 24/7 for a few days to a week, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it.
