I'm going to build the ladder going from run to coop tomorrow. The coop is 2 ft off the ground. What are some good ideas for rungs and what diameter should they be? My ladder is a 2"x10"x54". I have 6-8 wk old standard size chicks. Thanks in advance.

Most of the pics on here seem to have ramps with treads rather than ladders. Guess they are easier for young chicks to navigate. Or maybe they are less likely to cause a leg injury when they get excited and run over each other.

I recommend a ramp too. You can use just about anything. I used a scrap piece of plywood with scrap 1x1 screwed on (from underneath). I don't know how well chickens can execute a ladder. If you're worried about space limitations, maybe consider a big boulder or landscaping block to give them something to jump from? Just a thought.
