Lame chicken

Hi,

I have a chicken (Rhode Island layer) who is lame. She doesn't seem in pain but isn't placing weight on one leg. The muscle may be a little withered on that leg. This happened once before to a different chicken: the muscle just withered away and had to executed. I don't want that to happen again. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok, I have isolated her. Fed her an egg with 1/8th of an ibuprofen. She seems ok right now.

I have a lame hen right now as well. I noticed her out with the flock mid day free ranging trying to keep up. My hub and I caught her, and then placed her in a large dog cage. Fresh shavings, some hay, food water, and half of a baby aspirin. This morning she had normal droppings, and was putting weight on the leg. Will check this afternoon, She has been in the cage for 24 hours.

You can start a new thread of your own since this one is very old. The best way to see what you are seeing is to post a short video of the hen walking around, and you would need to upload the video to YouTube with a link posted here. Was she vaccinated for Mareks, and could she have been injured by a rooster or other hens?
