Hello. We have 2 giant cochin hens who will be a year old in May. I noticed one of them limping into the coop yesterday. I examined her foot, leg, up into her hip, her back, etc. I looked her over pretty well. I don’t find any place on her body that she reacts as though I am causing her pain. She is able to grasp my finger with the foot of that leg and grasp it firmly.
I’m thinking she may have strained it. They have a limited amount of space to run around in right now so I don’t know how she’d have strained it, still, things happen.
I would love anyone’s thoughts or perspectives about what to check for that I might be missing or what I might do to support her healing. She is in a protected place, eating, drinking, mingling with our other 2 hens, we have a total of 3, all the same age. She doesn’t seem unwell other than this limp. There is no extra amount of heat in the foot or leg. No redness or swelling either.
Also, she laid an egg today.
Thanks,
Jane

Our hen is still limping though I see or find nothing wrong with her. I have palpated her legs, her back, her pelvis and find no sensitive areas, no lesions, no problems that stand out. She still limps. She is now becoming broody and we are taking the eggs away from her because we have no rooster. Any thoughts on what might be causing her limp or actions to take to support her are appreciated. thank you
