Hi,

Totally new to this keeping chickens thing and thinking about building a coop.

I was hoping to put it where I already have a fenced in dog run but I'm concerned about the landscape fabric that's there. It was put down 8 years ago and covered with and inch or two of fine gravel. Since then the grass and weeds have grown on top of the whole thing because the dog doesn't use the run.

There are a few places where the gravel settled and left the cloth sticking out a bit.

Do you think the chickens would dig down to it? I won't be able to remove it myself (small lady), and I hate to give up on the chickens before I even get started.

they may dig down to it, but the question then is would that be a problem? I don't know the answer to that.

Sound like with the gravel you'll at least have good drainage.

How many chickens are you going to get? How big is the run?

I have landscape fabric under 2-3" of sand, they havn't dug down to it, yet. But I don't see a problem when they do.

The chickens will take care of any vegitation in the run

Good luck,

David

Thanks. I just don't want them to hurt themselves on it. I read that they can have a lot of problems if they eat it or get their feet caught in it.
My run will be about 12 feet by 8 feet.
